Ubuntu Education Fund features three, developmentally appropriate ECD classes. We have two types of classes in our Early Childhood Department. We have 3 toddler classes which operate Tuesdays and Thursdays and 3 Pre-K classes which operate Monday and Wednesday. All classes run from 8.00 - 2.00 on their respective days.
The pre-k classes are divided based on age to better support their learning through play as they transition to prepare for Grade R. Their daily schedule is play based and developmentally appropriate to allow them more realistic engagement with the classroom materials as they learn about and explore their world. Preschoolers have started to ‘fine-tune’ their skills that they have learned in the toddler years. Their play is more involved and they also have more self-imposed ‘rules’ that they must follow. They are using that information and making more connections with what they see in their communities. Preschoolers also tend to have a longer attention span and are able to spend more time focused on an activity; so more formal structured activities allow them to spend time engaging in pre-literacy and numeracy activities.
